CONTEST | Try Something New With An #AromaDateNight

Now that I’m back on the dating scene again – I have been thinking more about ideas for different first dates.

Don’t get me wrong – the typical “Let’s meet at such and such bar and grab a drink,” is still a viable option, however – how well can you really get to know someone in a loud bar?

Often, many people do not want to commit to a sit-down dinner on a first date either – even if the restaurant setting provides a more convenient way to chat and get to know your date…in between bites, of course.

No one likes someone who talks with food in their mouth!

I was recently chatting with the team from Aroma and thought to myself that going to an Aroma on a first date would be ideal.

Founded in Jerusalem in 1994, Aroma Espresso Bar has expanded to more than 170 locations worldwide across six countries, including Israel, Canada, and the United States.

Aroma came to Canada and opened their first Toronto location in The Annex in 2007, and they haven’t stopped there. With locations all around the GTA, including Markham, Mississauga, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Oakville – and more in the works – it’s safe to say that Aroma is here to stay.

aroma espresso bar

Having a first date (or any date for that matter) at Aroma is a great idea for a few reasons.

  1. There are many Aroma locations that are licensed. So you can not only have a coffee – but you can spike that coffee if you so choose to! Or, simply order a cocktail or signature spiked cocktail from their extensive menu.
  2. The laid back, comfortable setting of Aroma will have both you and your date feeling at ease.
  3. The food menu at Aroma is full of healthy, delicious items – many of which are actually large enough for sharing. So you can nibble on and share some delicious bites throughout your date.
  4. Multiple convenient locations make it super easy to make plans to meet there. If it’s a blind date, or a first date – it’s always a wise idea to play it safe and meet in a public place.
  5. Every single Aroma has a patio. Every single one. So when the nice weather comes back – you can enjoy some patio time!

Between their signature hot drinks, such as the Brazilian Hazelnut Latte, Hot Apple Cider, and the Aroma coffee, to their delicious cold drinks like the Sunrise (which I actually enjoy with a little vodka in it), Ice Chocolate, and their Iced Berry Tea Lemonade – there is bound to be something you’ll love.

If after you have your first drink – you find you’re comfortable and enjoying your date’s company – you can then decide to maybe grab a bite and continue getting to know each other. All without having to leave and head to another spot!

Pair your drinks with some delicious food, like the Sweet Potato Lentil Salad, or the Aroma A.C.E. Sandwich – which I tried recently and thoroughly enjoyed!

Now – I wouldn’t tell you all about this awesome first date idea without giving you the opportunity to experience it yourself, would I?

Of course not!

I’ve partnered with the amazing team at Aroma to offer one lucky winner a $100 gift certificate!

Unlimited Mimosas And Delicious Noms At The Windsor Arms Hotel Sunday Brunch

If you live in Toronto, chances are you love brunch.

We all love it.

It’s our thing.

Walk past any popular, and even some of the not-so-popular spots Sunday morning – and your likely to see a line-up for brunch.

One such brunch hot spot is The Windsor Arms Hotel.

Located in Yorkville, The Windsor Arms Hotel is a 28 suite hotel, and the building dates back to 1927.

At the Windsor Arms,  historic and new-millennium amenities are fused together to create a delicate balance of old-world charm and modern decadence.

Especially known for their high-tea service, The Windsor Arms Hotel actually has a lot more to offer.

I recently visited The Windsor Arms Hotel hotel for their Sunday brunch buffet, and let me tell you – I was not disappointed.

If you’re looking for a gorgeous place to take someone you want to impress out for brunch – I highly suggest The Windsor Arms Hotel.

And…guys, let me tell you something before I go into all the delicious food (and believe me – there was a lot of delicious food).

The Windsor Arms Hotel offers unlimited mimosas with their Sunday brunch.

Unlimited mimosas.

Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch

Yes, you read that right.

Made with their very own private label sparkling wine.

Unlimited, delicious, mimosas.

Alright – if that doesn’t sell you right there, let me tell you a bit bout the food.

Typically I am a bit weary of buffets.

I’m always worried about the food being luke-warm, and bland.

However – everything at The Windsor Arms Hotel Sunday brunch buffet was fresh and flavourful.

From the salad station to the seafood table; the meat carving station.

To the typical breakfast foods of pancakes and french toast – and everything in between – it was all simply delicious and fresh.

There were so many options that I didn’t know where to start!

Beef and Mushroom Ragout

Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch

Sheppards Pie

Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch

Turkey Roulade

Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch

Seafood Pasta Salad

French Toast, Bacon, Sausages, and Pancakes

Speaking of fresh…

One of my absolute favourite dished from my brunch was the Eggs Benedict.

Eggs Benedict is not something you would think would be included in a buffet brunch, but they are at The Windsor Arms Hotel!

Between your choice of three varieties, you place your order with your server and they are made fresh for you.

Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch

Traditional Eggs Benedict with Pemeal Bacon.

Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch

Eggs Benny with Smoked Salmon

Windsor Arms Sunday Brunch

Eggs Benny Florentine for the veggie lovers.

How amazing is that?

There is even an omlette station where you can pick and choose your toppings and have a fresh omlette made right there before your eyes.

Of course – make sure you leave room for dessert!

Because, well – there is a whole darn table dedicated to delicious dessert at The Windsor Arms Hotel Sunday Brunch!

With everything from creme brulee to pistachio cake – there is bound to be something for everyone on their dessert table!

Your Next Date Night Made Easy – Thanks To U-Feast

Dating can be interesting…to say the least.

Let’s face it – there are rules, and games, and all that fun stuff.

But when you put all that jazz aside – it boils down to spending time with someone interesting, and learning everything you can about this person.

So, when something comes my way that can make the whole dating thing a lot easier – my interest is always piqued!

When my friend Yvonne told me about U-Feast – I was definitely intrigued.

U-Feast was born out of a desire by adventurous foodies for something different than ordering off a restaurant menu – not that there’s anything wrong with that!

We couldn’t help but think there’s a better way to get unique dining experiences that won’t break the bank.

One of the best parts, in my opinion – is the fact that you can leave your wallet at home.

The ticket prices are inclusive of food, wine and gratuities.

So no need to worry about that awkwardness of splitting the bill at the end of the night!

Luckily – I got to head to one of U-Feast’s events recently and had a blast!

Held at Mata Bar in Parkdale – I was ushered in and seated at my table.

The entire restaurant was shut down for this sold–out event, and everyone looked so enthusiastic about trying out the custom menu!

One of the owners shared a bit of a background on the restaurant, its team, and its menu – which ended with an enthusiastic cheers with one of the most delicious cocktails I have ever had!

The Caipirinha is Brazil’s national cocktail, made with cachaça, sugar and lime.

Ours was topped with fresh sugar cane.

First up – Feijoada Shooter.

A traditional Brazilian stew with smoked meats in a black bean broth with crispy kale.

Second round – Swordfish Ceviche.

A pickled pineapple salsa with avocado sauce and house made cassava chips.

Third dish (and my personal favourite) – Linguica.

A house-smoked pork sausage with chimichurri, brown butter corn, and potato sticks.

Next up we had – Escondidinho de Camarao.

Jumbo grilled shrimp served on mashed cassava in a shrimp cream, topped with parmesean and bread crumbs.

Served along side with the shrimp was – Cassava “Gnocchi.”

Jamon crudo with shallots, brussels sprouts and reggianito.

Finally – dessert came out.

Carmalized Banana Panna Cotta.

AKA – heaven in my mouth.

As you can see – there was no shortage of food, and what you didn’t see is that there was an unlimited amount of wine too!

It’s simple and free to join U-Feast as a member.

Then you’ll have easy access to all of the U-Feast events.

Simply purchase your ticket(s) and that’s it!

Then all you have to do is show up hungry and ready to eat and drink to your hearts content.

So why not try out U-Feast for your next date night?

Their motto is “Never have a bad meal again” for a reason!

It’s officially October.

And do you know what that means?

…my birthday is soon!

But – besides that, Halloween is quickly approaching!

Ghosts and goblins and witches…oh my!

PayPal and Canada’s Wonderland have teamed up to launch “Wonderful Can Happen,” a fun new campaign for the 2015 season.

I’m teaming up with PayPal to give a lucky reader the chance to come to Halloween Haunt with me on October 16th!

Halloween Haunt

The prize pack includes:

2 Canada’s Wonderland entrance tickets for use on October 16.

Dining Reimagined At The Stella Artois Sensorium

Last month, the city was all a buzz about this amazing new experience that was having their global launch right here in Toronto.

From September 10th to 27th, 2015 – the Stella Artois Sensorium will be hosting 80-guests for the sold-out lunch and dinner services each day.

Fun Fact: The $125 tickets for the Stella Artois Sensorium sold out in days!

A world renowned chef and a team of sensory experts unite to create an immersive experience like no other.

Honoring the way a perfectly poured Stella Artois immerses the 5 senses, we present Sensorium.

A multi-course dining experience with beer and food pairings where each dish will be inspired by one of the five senses – sight, sound, taste, touch & aroma.

Within our sensorial dome, guests will be immersed in a 360 degree experience, surrounded by video and interactive elements that will engage and amplify all of the senses throughout the night.

The Stella Artois Sensorium was put together by a team of interactive memeber who wanted to bring together their passions to create a 360 degree dining experience.

Stella Artois
The sensorial experts will all come together to provide a fully immersive experience.

I was one of the lucky few invited out to experience the Stella Artois Sensorium before the global launch, and let me tell you – it was an experience like no other.

When we arrived, we were greeted with a chalice of Stella Artois…and those didn’t stop all afternoon!

As we waited to be seated a wall of 200 Stella chalices opened up and exposed us to the dining area.

We walked in, ready to immerse ourselves in a 5-course dining experience that would enlighten all 5 senses and pair perfectly with Stella Artois.

We were seated at one of two custom made tables, which each sat 20 people on each side.

As I mentioned, the tables were custom built for the Stella Artois Sensorium and were actually incorporated into the different courses.

Chef Richie Farina of the Michelin starred restaurant Moto, Chicago worked with the team to create a 5 course menu that was incorporated with video, music/sound, scent…everything you’d need to enlighten all your senses!

The first course was a selection of raw petite vegetables, planted in mushroom soil with a roasted garlic aioli.

As the dome changed colours above and around us, we literally dug into our first course!

The second course came with a plate that had sea salt surrounding a quote that read,

Sweet coconut fields, give way to the savoury sea, get ready to set sail, your journey has just begun.

The roof of the dome matched the white sea salt…it was breathtaking!

Shortly after our quoted plates were presented, our dish was served.

Raw and dehydrated scallops, poached halibut with a young coconut puree accompanied by a variety of fresh sea vegetation.

Chopsticks, broth, and a bowl of raw vegetables were brought out next and I was warned that this would be an interesting presentation.

All of a sudden, drums were being played, and the table was vibrating.

The broth was warming up and then we were to include the vegetables ourselves.

A vegetable broth served with crispy rice noodles, chilies, bean sprouts and a variety of herbs were devoured with our chopsticks, that read,

Chopsticks? We see drumsticks. Hot soup with cool jazz. Time to feed your soul.

When this course was brought out, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

Usually when I go to an event like this – I am presented with a menu at the start.

Which is ideal for me, as I have been known to be a picky eater in the past…however, I dove right into every dish!

No questions asked! #ProudOfMyself LOL

Braised beef cheek bird’s “nest” with caramelized cauliflower puree, mushroom leaves, salsify branches, succulent greens and cauliflower soil were served under a smoked glass that read,

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.

The final course was dessert, and it reminded me of camping!

Chocolate ganache with graham cracker served inside a marshmallow fluff, accompanied with a rich chocolate truffle all served over a real fire.

Each group of four, or so, got their own log and fire – so we all had the chance to roast our marshmallows.

Dessert came with a surprise too!

Our group were the first in Canada to try Stella Artois Cidre.

This cider was delicious, it was light and yet not too sweet.

Perfectly paired with the marshmallows!

“People aren’t going to know what to expect, but they are going to leave they are definitely going to enjoy the experience,”
~ Chef Farina
