Stress Relievers – Take A Chill Pill, JJ

As you can probably guess from my Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat accounts – my life can get very busy. It can be hectic trying to juggle everything at once. From my full-time day job – to writing blog posts; from going to events – to going out on dates; from making the time to hang out with friends and family…it can all be a bit overwhelming and stressful when trying to coordinate everything.

Side Note: I am not complaining. At all.

I am very fortunate to be in the position I am in and have the ability to do the things that I get to do. Believe me, I know this. But what I have come to learn over the past couple of years is that sometimes you need to take some time for yourself. Take a step back and think about what makes you happy, genuinely, to your core…and do more of that.

So what do I like to do to de-stress when life gets so crazy?
Rub A Dub Dub – Get In The Tub

There is something about filling up your tub with bubbles and/or bath bomb and just soaking away your stress. Seeing as I live alone, I leave my bathroom door open and my dog and cat often come in and lay beside the tub…those darn pervs, watching me take a bubble bath! I usually zone out and get lost in the latest season of Playing House on shomi or bury my nose deep into my latest book. By the time the water has turned cold and I’m all pruney – I get out and feel so much more relaxed than I did prior to hopping in the tub.

Run Jen(ny), Run

music on, the world off – running is my therapy

A photo posted by Jenn and the City (@thejennandthecity) on

Running is my therapy. I have a love-hate relationship with it, but running is seriously one of the things that keeps me sane. I love waking up bright and early, lacing up my fave kicks, and just running. I don’t always plan a route and to be honest, I don’t even always bring my phone. There’s something almost zen-like about being out there alone, running and hearing my feet hit the pavement.

Just never, ever call me Jenny. K? Thanks.

They Say Laughter Is The Best Medicine

jenn and the city toronto skyline stress RelieverI’m out so often for the blog that on the off-chance I do have a night without any work plans, one of my most favourite things to do is to spend some one-on-one time with someone who makes me laugh. We’ll open a bottle of wine and just let the conversation flow. No need to go out to a local hot-spot, no need to get all dolled up – just spending that quality time together is more than enough. And sometimes a view like that one above is part of the package…which isn’t too shabby if you ask me!

Sports, Go Sports

Rogers 4K Blue Jays #LifeIn4K stress Reliever

Ok, I often make the “Go Sports!” joke on Twitter, but the truth of the matter is I am actually a sports fan. While I may not be a “die-hard, be at the ball park or arena every week, know every single stat fan” – I do enjoy watching multiple sporting practices. Shocker, I know. So, as part of the #RogersSI team – when Rogers and Samsung reached out to partner for the launch of 4K streaming of the Blue Jays season – I was excited. Throw in the 55″ 4K TV from Samsung and Rogers’ NextBox 4K Cable Box and I was all set up to catch all of the Blue Jays games on from the comfort of my own home – and I was ecstatic! Having my family or friends over to watch a game is a great way to de-stress. My nieces are becoming baseball fans in their own right, so to have them over to watch the game(s) is a way to build these traditions and memories that will stay with us for years to come. We get to experience #LifeIn4K, “TV like never before with resolution that’s 4 times better than HD alone; with sharper images and realistic picture quality, everything you watch comes to life,” from the comfort of my own home. Really, what more could a gal ask for?

What are some of the ways you like to de-stress when life just gets to be too much and you literally can’t even?

Hit me up on Snapchat and show me!

Barefoot On The Beach Thanks To Barefoot Wine & Bubbly

Barefoot Wine & Bubbly has proclaimed July 9th World Beach Rescue Day (WBRD) in honor of the 10th year of the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, an initiative that began in 2007 in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to protecting our ocean, waves and beaches.

We only have one Earth, and we need to start taking the steps necessary to make it a better place for ourselves, and future generations. Barefoot Wine & Bubbly knows this, and has known it for many years. That’s why this Saturday, volunteers in 11 countries around the world will be feeling the sand between their toes as they simultaneously head to the beach for World Beach Rescue Day.

For the past 10 years, this beach-cleaning effort has expanded to more than 14 countries where over 14,000 volunteers have collected more than 20 tonnes of trash from our beaches. That’s 20 tonnes of trash that won’t be polluting our waters! That’s 20 tonnes of trash that won’t be affecting our beaches!

2016 World Beach Rescue Day International Participants

July 9, 2016 World Beach Rescue Day Clean Ups: Australia, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Korea, United Kingdom and United States

On Saturday, these volunteers will be outfitted with gloves (safety first, y’all) and reusable bags and will be directed to the areas of the local beaches, shores, rivers, and lakes that need some TLC. After spending the day making the world a little prettier – these lucky volunteers will then be treated to some “delicious food, exciting entertainment, and complimentary Barefoot Wine & Bubbly.”

Unable to join in the World Beach Rescue Day clean up on Saturday? You can still join in on the movement by being part of the conversation.

Head to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and share a photo of how you are helping clean up our beaches. Use the hashtag #WorldBeachRescueDay and Barefoot Wine & Bubbly will donate $1 (up to $100,000) to Surfrider.

Best of all – this will be going on all summer (until August 31, 2016), so you have lots of time to share your story!

Join the conversation on Twitter and Instagram: @BarefootWine @Surfrider #WorldBeachRescueDay.

While there is still a great deal of work to be done, we’re incredibly proud of the stand in the sand Barefoot has taken in preserving beaches around the world,” said Stephanie Gallo from Barefoot Wine & Bubbly. “We hope World Beach Rescue Day will usher in a greater emphasis on the importance of leaving only footprints on our beaches.

CONTEST | On The Go With Kaylee Johnston And Gaiam

Enter to WIN with Kaylee Johnston and Gaiam

Kaylee Johnston

I’ve been sharing my fitness journey here on le blogaroo as well as on Twitter and Instagram for the past little while. I’ve been working on making small changes in my every day life in order to live the best version of me. That being said…life has taken one of those twists and some things have changed in my personal life over the past little while. These changes threw me for a loop for a few days, and I ended up skipping out on some workouts. No good.

Here’s the thing. Life can get hectic and busy – but you have to find and make the time to take care of yourself. I’ve personally learned this lesson the hard way, more than once. By burning the candle at both ends – I end up burning out. No bueno, my friends.

I’m back on the right track with my fitness though, and am actually trying something new – yoga and meditation. Finding that time to focus all of my energy solely on myself and my health has been a life saver. I take a few minutes every day to just zone out and try to calm my racing mind. While it’s not always easy – I know that it helps, and in time it’ll get easier.

Kaylee Johnston

I recently had the chance to chat with Canadian singer and songwriter, Kaylee Johnston about how she finds the time to keep up with her love for fitness and yoga – and to discuss her release of her self-title new EP on June 3, 2016 and newest single, “Getting Over You.”
(Hilarious timing, am I right?! LOL)

#ActiveJJ | Waking Up Muscles I Forgot I Had At CrossFit YKV

#ActiveJJ CrossFit
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been focusing more so on my cardio, and just trying to get my body used to being back in the gym. You never really know how out of shape you really are until you hop on that treadmill and start running, eh? But even before focusing on the cardio aspect – my first workout in longer than I care to admit was at CrossFit YKV.

CrossFit is one of those workouts I have heard so much about but never actually tried. A simple search for hashtags on Instagram will show you just how much people absolutley love it.

What exactly is CrossFit?

Strictly speaking, CrossFit is defined as “Constantly Varied Functional Movements executed at High Intensity.” It begins with a belief in fitness. A belief that one trains for any physical contingency – the known, the unknown and the unimaginable! In performing multiple and varied movements that are natural, safe, reproducible and infinitely scalable, one gains power and speed that vastly exceeds other forms of fitness training.

I was eager and excited to head into the gym and work up a sweat! When M jokingly suggested I check out CrossFit Fails videos on YouTube the night before attending my first ever CrossFit class, I laughed it off. Then when we got off of the phone – curiousity got the best of me and I had to check them out. Welp. Probably not the best idea! M reassured me that those people were not being guided and trained by professional, but for the most part were amatuers just trying to tackle CrossFit all on their own, and that would most certainly NOT be the case at CrossFit YKV.

I closed down YouTube and told myself over and over, “You got this, JJ.

Hey Girl Meme Crossfit

The next day I woke up ready to give CrossFit a go. I showed up to CrossFit YKV right on time, which if you know me is a shocker. I’d like to say the only reason I was on time was my excitement, but the truth is CrossFit YKV is literally a block away from my place…so, I had literally no excuse to be late. LOL

Living And Loving Life In 4K With Rogers And Samsung

The way you watch TV from your living room is about to change…
Welcome to Life in 4K.

I had lived my life for a solid two years without even owning a TV. I didn’t even miss having one; I wasn’t home enough to miss it. LOL I would catch up on the odd show via social media and/or YouTube videos, but last October (on my birthday, actually) – I caved. I went out and bought myself a great little 32″ TV/DVD combo (#fancy) and didn’t look back. It was perfect for little old me in my studio apartment, or so I thought.

Fast forward to the beginning of April 2016, the week before the Blue Jays Home Opener weekend. M and I had plans to check out the #HondaHomeOpener, but we wanted to chill at home on the Saturday afternoon and watch the second of the three-game series.

While I’m a fan of all Toronto teams, (that home town pride and all) – I am the first to admit that I totally jumped on the Blue Jays bandwagon when they had s stellar season last year. M on the other hand, he’s always been a fan – practically since he was in diapers. (If you follow him on Twitter or Instagram – you’ll have seen that he is a HUGE Blue Jays fan…and makes some delicious waffles, but I’m saving all of that for another post.)

So when my friends at Rogers and Samsung Canada reached out to see if we could partner for this Blue Jays season, I was intrigued…to say the least. When they told me I’d be able to experience every single Blue Jays game in 4K from the comfort of my home – I was sold.

Life in 4K? Where do I sign up?!

Rogers 4K TV #LifeIn4K

So it was a whole “out with the old and in with the new” moment in Casa de JJ. I said sayonara to my little 32″ TV (I gave it to my nieces to put in their room) and ushered in my brand spanking new 55″ Samsung  SUHD 4K Smart TV. Thank you, Samsung Canada and Rogers!

While the TV itself was pretty simple to set up (let’s be honest here…M did it – not me, LOL) – I did have to make a switch with my cable box. The team from Rogers sent out someone to install and set up the Rogers NextBox 4K set-top box before Blue Jays opening weekend to ensure we would be able to catch the games in all that 4K glory.

…and glorious it was, and still is.

I have to be honest, I wasn’t 100% sure what 4K was exactly, and what the difference was between the HD we’ve all grown accustomed to over the years. After doing a little more research and reading, and asking M to explain it a bit more – I realized, 4K is basically like HD on crack. LOL

Food, Fun, And Forts – The Ultimate #StayDate

One of the great things about being in a new relationship is that constant desire to spend all of your time with one another. I find myself craving nights in, curled up with my new boothang and just wanting to spend that quality one-on-one time together. Which actually works out well, because between doing the 9 to 5 Monday – Friday thing, a calendar chock full of events and meetings in the evenings, and trying to squeeze in time for workouts to keep my sanity – come Friday night I’m all for staying in…and that’s exactly what we did.

Sure – going out is great (we actually did put on adult clothes on Saturday and go out for dinner), but not all date nights need to be elaborate. There is something to be said for having a #StayDate – a casual, quiet date night in.

Sweat pants, hair tied, chillin’ with no make-up on.

When it comes to planning the perfect #StayDate – my freinds at Molson know what’s up. They sent me the perfect #StayDate care package full of tips and tricks (not to mention some of their new delicious Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA to try!).

Find Yourself Again At Casa Velas’ Divorcee Getaway

Casa Velas

Sometimes life will throw you a curveball and things won’t always work out as you had planned. That’s alright though; you just have to dust yourself off, and get back in the game. And what better way to do that than in sunny Mexico? The fact that this resort has a “handbag bar” where guests can enjoy use of a “loaner” designer handbag at no extra charge is just an added bonus!

Casa Velas is a luxury all-inclusive boutique hotel and ocean club for adults only, reminiscent of a Spanish hacienda, and nestled on the greens of Marina Vallarta’s 18-hole golf course. The hotel features a private ocean club and is just minutes from the beach. It has received the AAA Four Diamond Award for hospitality seven times and has been in the top two in TripAdvisor for Puerto Vallarta since 2010.

Casa Velas

The team at Casa Velas understands that life can be complicated and they have partnered with relationship expert Natalie Moore to put together a getaway for people going through what can only be described as a tough situation. Let’s face it – divorce can be messy and heartbreaking, but through it people often find a strength and sense of self that they didn’t know they had. Casa Velas has arranged a getaway for divorcees

Divorcees looking to reconnect will restore their inner sense of harmony and launch a new life while enjoying a luxurious vacation on the Pacific Coast of Mexico during Casa Velas’ Divorcee Getaway, May 4-8.

Escaping Reality With Game Of Thrones And My Overly Active Imagination

Game Of Thrones

There once was a girl with on overly active imagination. She spent her days fantasizing different stories and scenarios. In one she was a princess, living in a castle – waiting for her prince to find her. In another, she was the Mother of Dragons fighting for the Throne.

Spoiler alert…that girl is me and I’m addicted to Game of Thrones.

I was admittedly late to the Game of Thrones party. I got into it when the second season had started. I’ll never forget it. I was sick one weekend, and bedridden. So I was looking for something to binge watch as I slurpped my soup. I watched Season 1, Episode 1 of Game of Thrones, and was immediately hooked.

Don’t judge me, but – I ~BiNgE wAtChEd~ three whole seasons that weekend…lolz.

Best weekend ever…minus the flu I was battling.

Fast forward to present day, and I’m still addicted. However, life has caught up (as it so often does, am I right?) and I’m here – a full season behind. Womp.

What’s New With Ford Canada At The Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS)

It may only be February, but 2016 has already been a whirlwind of a year for me…and I’m loving it! This past weekend was no different. I got to head back to the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS).

I had visited the CIAS briefly on the media day before the show actually launched, but had to leave early to catch my flight to Quebec City. (You’ll read more about that trip soon!)

Ford Canada brought me out on the CIAS media day to learn more about the automaker’s advancements in safety, including Gorilla Glass. The team set up a hail bazooka shooting giant ice balls at your face, don’t worry – we were protected behind the Gorilla Glass! Though I will admit, it was terrifying standing there having giant ice balls shot at your face!

I’m sure you’re thinking to yourself, “What the heck does JennJenn know about cars?!” And that’s a fair question – because, I really don’t know much. But what I do know is that I throughly enjoy heading out on road trips, and more often than not – I like to drag my two young nieces along for the fun. So learning more about the safety features that different brands are implementing is important…because, I love those rugrats to bits! LOL
